Fletcher 1960-1969

An alliance with Australian company ET Brown sees long-run iron Brownbuilt roofing iron manufactured in New Zealand.

The Pacific Steel mill is constructed and starts operating in 1962.

A consortium is formed with USA's Kaiser company to build a road tunnel to connect Lyttelton and Christchurch. Two hundred and fifty kilogrammes of explosives are used and 150,000 cubic metres of rock are moved.

The purchase of the New Zealand operations of The Kauri Timber Company sees Fletcher become New Zealand1s biggest timber processor.

Fletcher builds New Zealand1s first oil refinery at Marsden Point in a consortium with Bechtels (USA) and Wimpeys (UK).
